These things are not okay with me:
- Character outfits on children. We've been over this.
- Girl Scouts/Cub Scouts. Growing up I wanted to be a Girl Scout and my brother wanted to be a Boy Scout. I distinctly remember my dad telling us kids it was just a bunch of fruity kids sitting around a fire playing flutes. I plan on telling my kids the same thing. You aren't going to get a scouting scholarship to college...so why bother? Andy pretty much agrees, even though he was an Eagle Scout.
- Hockey. It's expensive and practices are often EARLY in the morning. Plus I don't want my daughters playing manly sports. I'm terrified of butchness. Andy and I have both agreed that this is off limits to our children.
- Raffi, Barney, or any other weird children's music. My kids will listen to the same music I listen to. Kaley grew up listening to DMX and Snoop Dogg with me and she turned out just fine. Plus small children rapping is my favorite thing ever.
- Horseback riding lessons. I've seen what being involved with horses can do to people. Plus, wearing shirts with big horse heads on them is just wrong. It truly hurts my heart when I see people wearing these hideous things.
I'm sure some people think this makes me a terrible mother, but I don't see anything wrong with saying no to your kid. My parents didn't let us do certain things and we got over it. I'm sure the list will grow slightly over the years, but these are the 5 things I can guarantee I won't be allowing.
