On my mind...

It's 3:10 am and I'm up. I went to bed at 10 which is not super early for me, so I have no idea why I am wide awake. I'm sure I'll be asleep again by 4.

Andy and I have been talking about the activities that we'd like our kids to be involved in (hence the last post) and I have another activity to add to my list of restrictions: child acting. Andy mentioned something about Isla being in commercials. NO WAY. When she is old enough to know what acting is, and really want to act, then I'd consider it, but I'm not going to be one of those crazy moms who takes her kids on auditions and pushes them into something. I'd rather do hockey or girl scouts.

I found out we have a 1st, 4th, and 5th grade position opening next year (along with one at the middle school). The 3rd grade team is meeting with the principal and assistant principal on Wednesday to "discuss" where we would all best fit. I don't really want to discuss anything. We shouldn't have to fight against each other to stay in 3rd grade. The choice should be made for us. None of us want to leave and I have a feeling the discussion will be uncomfortable and someone will end up being mad.

If I were not 7 months pregnant, I'd be much more open to moving. Imagine me packing up my classroom, moving everything across the building, unpacking, and learning new curriculum all before mid July. I can barely unload the groceries these days!! Plus, I have spent LOTS of my own money on 3rd grade books, posters, and teaching aides. And I'm the senior 3rd grade teacher!

I do have to consider which grade I'd prefer, in case I'm the one to move. And this next grade level will be very permanent since we are cutting to the bare minimum of teachers...so I'd be in this grade for quite a while. Here are my thoughts....

1st:
Pros:

  • Adorable kids.
  • Easier curriculum to learn in a short amount of time.

Cons:

  • It's a far move across the building.
  • What the hell do 1st graders do?!?!
  • Do I have to sing?
  • I spent so much time researching and perfecting reader's workshop and I have no idea how I would teach reading in 1st grade.

4th:
Pros:

  • I could possibly stay in my classroom since it is right across the hall from the other 4th grade teacher.
  • I'd have a lot of my same kids from this year!
  • .
  • It would be the easiest transition.

Cons:

  • Curriculum is harder to learn.
  • I could get stuck with some horrible kids from this year (there are seriously 5 I DO NOT want!).
  • I like working with little kids.

5th:
Pros:

  • I'd have a lot of my kids from last year.

Cons:

  • 5th graders think they are so cool.
  • Curriculum is harder to learn.
  • I'd have to move to the basement.
  • I like working with little kids.

So, as you can see I have no idea what I'd really want. 3rd grade is truly my dream job. It's the perfect age. 2nd grade would be my second choice, but sadly that isn't an option.

Any thoughts on which grade level I should pick if I have to?? I guess I'm more debating between 1st and 4th...

Okay, back to bed...let's hope I'm asleep before 4!
