Thanksgiving Break

The question What are you thankful for? is not the most profound question ever asked, but I tend to ask it around Thanksgiving just because it seems almost mandatory. On Wednesday night I asked Andy what he was thankful for while we were laying in bed and his response was, "What kind of PBS question is that? I'm not going to answer that." Isn't that unbelievable?! Like he's never been asked that in his life. Yes it's kind of a dorky question, but still...how easy would it have been to answer me? Eventually he rambled off a few things after I gave him the silent treatment, but I was quite irritated. I am thankful for many things, one of course being Thanksgiving break. I LOVE Thanksgiving break!

Yesterday I set my alarm for 8am and amazingly got up before it even went off! I'm hugely obsessed with the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade and I just cannot miss it. Andy of course had to make the comment, "You got out of bed pretty quickly to watch the parade, yet you can't seem to make it out of bed to sub..." He's totally right about this which is actually pretty sad, but whatever. I have this obsession with seeing Santa and his reindeer at the end of the parade. When we were little my dad told us kids that he was the REAL Santa, and all of the mall Santas were really only Santa's helpers. Obviously I wasn't going to miss an opportunity to see the real Santa...and now Thanksgiving just wouldn't be the same without him. At one point while I was out of the room I swore I heard the announcers say Santa, and I bolted back into the living room only to find they had said Uncle SAM as the giant balloon floated by. I had hoped Andy didn't notice, but he did...and I'm pretty sure at that moment he was questioning either my sanity or his commitment to such a nerdy girlfriend.

During the parade Andy and I set up our Christmas tree, which has also been a tradition in my house for as long as I can remember. I was a bit worried at first when we took our tree out of the box. Andy's sister had given us their old tree from last year which ended up being a $9.99 tree from Big Lots. The tree was much scrawnier than I had hoped for, but after loading it with lights and pretty ornaments it looks beautiful. Amazingly, Andy and I agreed ornaments for our tree, which include a variety of red and silver ornaments, with the occasional random ornament I have received throughout the years, including a "Bark the Herald Angels Sing" dog...who gave that to me?!?! (I know it was one of you girls...Angela was it you?) These ornaments + white lights = elegant Christmas tree...exactly what I wanted! (When I was younger my dad had us decorate the tree with red, white, and blue bulbs along with Twins, Vikings, and North Stars ornaments as well. So you can see my need for something a little fancier...)

Later on in the Afternoon we headed over to Andy's Uncle's house for the usual family dinner. It was a lovely evening filled with lots of wine and scrumptious food (can you believe I actually tasted the Turkey this year and enjoyed it?!)

Waking up to snow today was amazing. I love laying in bed and watching the snow fall. I enjoyed every minute of the pretty snow until I actually had to drive in it. Apparently my car has really terrible traction because today I almost slid off of 2 on ramps and nearly hit a guard rail. Thank goodness not many people were on the road because there were many times I came skidding to a stop even going under 10 miles per hour. Thankfully, Liz's car has much better traction so she drove us to subway and then to see RENT which I absolutely loved. We had lunch, saw the movie, and got snacks for under 10 dollars each! It was a perfect way to spend the snowy afternoon. I spent the rest of the day cleaning and doing laundry which was not so perfect, but it needed to get done and I feel sooo much better getting it out of the way.

It has been such a lovely break so far and there are still 2 days left :) I intend to spend the weekend drinking hot chocolate, scrapbooking, and praying for more snow.
