I really hadn't planned on going home to visit until after Christmas, but all the boredom was getting to me, and I found a cheap flight so I figured why not?
Andy dropped me off at the airport Saturday 3 hours early for my flight because he needed to be to work by 8:30. I was counting on lines to kill a bit of time for me, but of course, there were NO lines! Not one single person in the baggage check line OR the security line. I was truly amazed! So I sit down and start reading my book and about an hour into it, the guy sitting directly behind me (he was about 50 years old) turned around and asked me what book I was reading. I happened to be reading Girls In Pants which was slightly embarrassing, but he wrote down the name of the book and the author as if he was really interested in reading it as well. He then proceeded to have a conversation with me for 1 hour...yes 1 whole hour. I have never talked to a stranger that long in my entire life. At one point I was looking for an out but I didn't have one, I had no idea what to do. Finally, when it was time for me to get on the plane (he was on a different flight...thank goodness...) he asked for my email address so we could keep in touch. I was totally caught off guard. Do you give strangers your email address just like that?! I started writing it down, then I realized my email address is my first and last name...I didn't want him knowing that much info, so I gave him my old email address and he gave me his. He then asked for my cell phone number! This is when I had to draw the line! I told him my cell number was still a Chicago number and I was in the process of getting a new one. It was quick thinking...I was quite proud! It is sort of sad though that we need to hesitate so much when talking to people we don't know. This guy could be a great contact for me to have in the future, or could be a molester...I will never know because I can guarantee I won't be emailing him.
When I was home I was eating terribly. With the snack cupboard overflowing with Cheetos, fruit snacks, Oreos, and the fridge stocked with Mountain Dew (specially for me), I just could not help myself! On more than one occasion I had Cheetos and Oreos for breakfast along with a Mountain Dew. Sick. That almost makes me a little nauseas now just thinking about it. Thank goodness I can't afford to buy all these tastey treats...I'd be a monster.
While I was at home I didn't do anything too exciting, but it was a very nice little vacation! Here are some of the highlights:
-Getting paid to clean like a mad man for my dad. Our house is getting appraised today, and it was his mission to make our house as clean as humanly possible. I enjoy cleaning though, so I would have done it even if I hadn't gotten paid :)
-Seeing The Constant Gardener with Anna. This was a great movie, but had I seen the previews before I agreed to going I wouldn't have gone. Usually I'm not a fan of movies set in places other than the US but this one was great...I highly recommend it.
-Playing Family Feud on Sega with Abb while listening to Celine Dion's greatest hits CD (or whatever it's really called). It was quite a humorous situation I must admit, but lots of fun. Celine Dion is a huge guilty pleasure of mine (her music, not Celine herself).
-Taking the train downtown to see Abb's new apartment/dorm. I must say it is quite lovely...it certainly made me miss college life. After a quick tour of her place we headed across the street for a scrumptious dinner before making the 7:40 train back home.
-Buying fabulous jeans from Nordstrom. Seriously...amazing, amazing jeans. So amazing I can't even remember the brand at the moment, but I'm happy cause buying jeans is usually such a struggle! I also bought a couple of cute shirts, which of course, followed my new rule of...age appropriate, cute, and long enough to show no stomach :)
Now I'm home and I can no longer put off working. I have very little money left and I'm actually beginning to enjoy laying on the couch all day and not showering...not a good sign. I'm calling work tomorrow to take some hours and I hope to start subbing on Monday. I know once I start working again I'll be able to appreciate my days off a lot more than I have been. Plus, I won't feel like such a useless piece of crap AND I'll have a reason to shower again! ;)
