After work this morning instead of crawling back into bed for a couple more hours I decided to hit up the gym for a good workout. Towards the end of my workout I migrated to an empty corner of the room and jumped on my favorite elliptical. Moments later I noticed a 20 dollar bill laying on the floor next to the bike in front of me. There was one woman 2 bikes down, otherwise no one in sight. The whole time I was on the elliptical I kept thinking should I take that money?! I was totally caught in a moral dilemma. Obviously I would never steal from anyone...but this wasn't technically stealing. It was just money laying on the floor... I didn't want to get off the elliptical, go pick up the money, and then go back and continue my workout...that would be too obvious, so I decided to move to the bike in front of me and workout for a while on that. I figured this way the owner would have some time to come back and look for his/her money and anyone else walking by would assume the money was mine and not try to take it. Good plan huh?
After a while on the bike no one came by to claim the 20 dollars so I took it. I HAD to! I thought about bringing it to the front desk...but if you lose money you aren't going to ask the front desk if they have it...you are going to assume it was taken right?! And who better to take the money than a nice person like me?! :) I felt sooo guilty and nervous as I walked away with the money that I completely skipped my normal stretching routine and went straight home. I was convinced as I was walking out that someone was going to accuse me of stealing.
I actually still feel a little guilty about taking the money. Goodness I could never be a criminal...
Well I am going to look on the bright side--at least now I can go out tonight and get a couple of drinks without feeling guilty about spending money!
I'm curious. If you were in that situation what would you do?

I probably would have taken it as well. At least you gave the person awhile to claim it.
