I found out today that another new teacher from outside of the district was hired recently. WTF?!?! I was told that I would have the opportunity to interview for any open teaching positions before people outside of the district, so I have no idea what is going on. The fact that I have taught in the district for a year and have yet to be called for an interview is quite amazing. Clearly the hiring process is a lot more shady than I realized.
I wish I would have known this sooner!! I was given the impression this spring that I had a very good chance of being hired back for the upcoming school year, so I didn't search for jobs as hard as I should have. If someone would have just told me, "there's a good chance you won't get a job next year because our school district is corrupt and the principals will only interview people they know and like" then I wouldn't have sat on my ass all summer assuming I'd be rehired. Now I'm stuck in a bad situation and a very bad mood.
On a more positive note, Andy has a job interview tomorrow up in Duluth for an on-air news reporter. Keep your fingers crossed he gets the job! One of us needs to get a good job, and my chances are growing more slim as the days go by. Plus, I got to teach last year and Andy has been stuck working jobs that require no college degree...so he really deserves to get this job!!
I guess I should get going to bed. As much as I really don't want to, I'm going to drive along with Andy to keep him company. Actually, I'm only going if I can choose all the music and get a free lunch out of the deal. I'm pretty sure I'll be able to negotiate that.
