Diamond Shmiamond

As crazy as it may sound, I do NOT want a diamond engagement ring. People always think I'm ridiculous when I say this, but I just don't see the point. Why should Andy spend thousands of dollars on a diamond when he could just as easily buy me a fake one?! I doubt anyone would know the difference. Obviously, I don't want my ring looking like it came straight from a Cracker Jack box, it has to have a good quality band and a realistic diamond because I want people to think I am wearing a fabulously expensive ring :)

I really just don't see the point in spending so much money on a ring. Especially when we could spend that money on a huge TV or something we'd actually use. Andy does not like this idea; he wants to buy me a diamond and I can't seem to talk him out of it. I guess I should be more concerned with WHEN Andy is going to propose, not with the ring. At the rate we're going, we'll be senior citizens and I probably won't even be able to see the diamond anyway...

Oh buddy, I agree and disagree with you. On one hand, you're so right, why spend so much money on a ring when you could spend it on something for the house? But on the other hand, you will wear that ring EVERY day for the rest of your life, I can't imagine wearing a fake ring forever, no matter how real it looked.

I'd say go somewhere in the middle, get a really small real diamond ring, you don't have to spend thousands of dollars for a beautiful ring. Or screw the diamonds, and get a ruby, emerald, or a sapphire or something, I think that would be gorgeous, incredibly original, and much more affordable. But it would still be real, and it wouldn't be trying to be something it's not. You know?

God, from the length of this comment it sure seems like I have a huge opinion on the matter of engagement rings, and really, I so don't! Finding someone you want to be with for the rest of your life is seriously all that matters. The ring should be the last thing holding you back!
